About Us

In the late eighties, students from Vidarbha region lamented lack of quality residential schools that could provide them military training and encourage them to take up armed forces as a career. This lack of military exposure also adversely affected regional representation in the uniformed services. Many local senior citizens rallied for establishment of a military school in the region.

Even Late Dr Padmashree Dajisaheb Patwardhan, renowned freedom fighter Late Shri Balasaheb Marathe as well as erstwhile Chief Minister of Maharashtra Late Shri Vasantrao Naik provided impetus to their demand.

When Late Shri Suryakant Jog, IPS and Ex Director General of Police, Maharashtra retired from service, he established Navjeevan Society and formally registered it under Society’s Registration Act in November 1988. He aimed to develop a new culture of military training, adventure and competitive spirit amongst the local youth.

He identified a quote from Bhagavad Gita ज्ञानं विज्ञानसहितं as the emblem for the Society meaning knowledge combined with science will liberate students from all evils. The Society stressed on moulding the potential of its youth to be the strength of the Nation. Hence he added another line to the Society logo युवाशक्ति: खलु राष्ट्रशक्ति:..

The Society started with conduct of summer camps for students in Chikhaldara region for their overall personality development. These camps proved to be very popular amongst the school and college students. Now Late Shri Jog dreamt bigger of forming a permanent establishment to train the students. In 1991, Navjeevan Society under his dynamic stewardship started the first sainik school in Vidarbha region at the scenic hill station of Chikhaldara. The School was aptly named Deepshikha Gurukul. It aimed to develop bright students like Tip of a Flame (दीपशिखा) in an ancient Gurukul system of education where all students were treated equally irrespective of their social standards while residing near their teachers. In 2015, in recognition of the immense contribution by its founder, the name of the School School was revised to Suryakant Jog Deepshikha Gurukul Sainik School.
Over past three decades the School has grown to be a premier institute for overall growth of the students. It has carved a niche for itself for quality education within the State of Maharashtra.
